Art and Nature with Creative Lives

Our partnership with Creative Lives yields many fun summer art and nature projects in in Vermont. In partnership with Camp Ventures (Hartford, VT) we designed a natural sculpture project inspired by artist Andy Goldsworthy. First, the students learn about Goldsworthy's art by viewing some of the amazing sculptures he makes using only things he finds in nature (rocks, leaves, sticks, etc.). Then we set out to fill our buckets with colorful natural treasures found in the field and the forest. Returning from this journey, the kids are hot and tired, so we find some shade and begin the meditative task of arranging the findings in creative ways to make natural sculptures. The kids really like this project, as it combines the physical challenge of collecting and carrying buckets in the hot sun with the calming act of sitting quietly and arranging their findings into beautiful, temporal sculptures.
